The Intercessor's Burden

Someone emailed me this morning asking about this, so I thought I would also share with all of you what an Intercessor's Burden is, just in case anyone else needs to know this.

Have you ever felt a terrible grief rise up in your soul when you are praying? Sometimes even to the point of weeping before the Lord? Did you ever wonder what it was?

What you are feeling is the Intercessor's Burden. The Lord lays it on those who are called to intercede for lost souls. My sweet little Southern Mama was an intercessor. She spent her whole 87 year life quietly interceding for the lost, and witnessing to anyone she encountered. Back in the days of long distance phone calls, if an Operator came on the phone line, Mom would witness to them about Jesus.

Throughout the world, there are many souls who have not a single Christian in their families to pray them into the Kingdom. So the Lord in His infinite mercy created intercessors. When we lift up the lost before His Throne, He saves this one or that one and then gifts them to also intercede or to evangelize or preach or whatever to bring in more souls. His plan is like a beautiful tapestry. So many interwoven threads.

What He wants you to do when you feel that is cry out to Him to save the lost. To cry out means to go into deep intense prayer (or loud prayer if you prefer that) Pray and pray and pray fervently asking Him to save these souls. The Lord came to seek and save that which is lost - He is all about souls, and especially now, as the door to the Marriage Feast will soon be closed and no more will be admitted. He grieves for every person who rejects Him because He sees the torture they will suffer in eternity.

The rewards are very (VERY) great for the work of an intercessor. Someone years ago that visited heaven said the intercessors - little grandmas and others who prayed quietly behind the scenes for years and got no "credit" for it on earth are actually located the closest to the Lord in heaven. Isn't that wonderful? I can’t vouch for whether they visited heaven or not, but that is how highly the Lord values anything we do to help bring souls into the Kingdom of God.

Spend your time on earth laying up treasure in heaven. We are going there soon and you will have all of eternity to enjoy them.

Proverbs 11:30 KJV

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
